Business & Finance Law

  • In the heart of the regulatory capital
  • Bridging the gap between the regulatory and financial worlds
  • Access to significant experiential opportunities
  • Highly experienced, sought-after faculty
  • Home to the Center for Law, Economics & Finance

With GW Law's location at the heart of Washington, DC, just across the street from the World Bank/International Monetary Fund and steps away from major courts and international organizations, our students find themselves in the regulatory capital of the business and finance world. Our curriculum and externship opportunities help them make the most of that.

GW Law students hold semester-long externships with regulators, trade associations, and national law firms located here in in DC. In addition, our students regularly interact with the prominent practitioners who shape the business and finance law landscape as these leaders participate in events on campus and serve as adjunct faculty.

On campus, students discover an array of faculty expertise. Our nationally prominent research faculty includes the most recent nominee for Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, the former Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, the leading Chinese business law expert, and many other leaders in their fields.

GW’s Center for Law, Economics & Finance (C-LEAF) convenes events that bring together government and private sector leaders from DC and New York. Our summer program in New York exposes students to the distinctive features of New York practice and is taught by GW Law alumni on site at leading investment banks and private equity firms, such as Goldman Sachs and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, and elite law firms, such as Sullivan & Cromwell and Kirkland & Ellis. In addition, GW recently launched the Falk Academy of Management and Entrepreneurship to offer students new experiential learning opportunities through classes, speakers, and externships at start-up firms.
