GW Law offers more than 25 courses in national security law, many taught by leaders in the field. For example, we offer Cybersecurity Law; Intelligence Law; Counterterrorism Law; Nation Building and the Rule of Law; Law of War; Military Justice; and International Money Laundering, Corruption, and Terrorism; as well as seminars addressing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) and Powers of War and Peace.
Each year, national leaders in the field visit the law school and meet with students. Recently, students met in small sessions with Secretary of the Air Force Deborah James, the former Acting General Counsel of the Central Intelligence Agency John Rizzo, and Office of the Director of National Intelligence Principal Deputy General Counsel Susan Gibson.
Because of our location in DC, GW Law students enjoy year-round access to externships at national security agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice National Security Division, Defense Intelligence Agency, Transportation Security Administration, and the Department of Homeland Security.
Our program is dynamic. Faculty members have written leading textbooks in the fields of national security law, counterterrorism law, US foreign relations law, and military justice. In addition, the National Security Law Society and the Military Law Society are two of the most active student groups on campus, hosting numerous student events and career panels. Year after year, GW Law is among the top recruiting schools for JAG officers in the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
